Director – Conference of Defence Associations

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Director to support the Executive Director in driving CDA’s impact. This role sits at the centre of the organization—connecting members, advancing advocacy, and supporting fundraising and operations.

You will act as a key liaison across the CDA network and play a hands-on role in delivering high profile programs, partnerships, and events.

Key Responsibilities

Member Engagement & Governance

  • Lead coordination with member associations and support CDA governance (AGM, Council, Executive);
  • Lead membership recruitment and retention efforts;
  • Review and process associations benefits to ensure best practices and value to the members;
  • Management and execution of membership benefits across CDA/CDA Institute Initiatives;
  • Strengthen collaboration with the CDA Institute on research and programming;
  • Prepare briefings and materials for senior leadership.

Advocacy & Programs

  • Support the delivery of CDA’s advocacy strategy and national engagement initiatives;
  • Coordinate signature programs, including youth engagement, parliamentary outreach, and
    Army Day on the Hill.

Fundraising & Operations

  • Track and manage membership dues, invoicing and accounts receivable;
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts, partnerships, and grant development;
  • Support budget tracking and organizational planning;
  • Help deliver major events, including the Ottawa Conference and Vimy Gala.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are a strategic, credible, and execution-focused professional with a strong understanding of Canada’s defence and security landscape.

Experience & Expertise

  • 5–10+ years of experience in government, defence, public policy, non-profit leadership, or a related field;
  • Military experience, or experience working with the Canadian Armed Forces, considered a strong asset;
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders, including government officials, military leadership, and industry partners;
  • Demonstrated experience in program delivery, stakeholder engagement, or policy/advocacy work;
  • Experience supporting fundraising, partnerships, or grant development considered a strong asset;
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
