Become a Mentee

The CDA Institute’s Mentorship Program offers students and young professionals a great opportunity to build professional relationships with and receive guidance from leaders in Canadian defence and security. Mentees will receive guidance on important topics such as skills development, career advancement, and overall success.

Through the programme, mentees can expect to strengthen their knowledge base, expand their networks, and have a trustworthy resource with whom to consult for advice and guidance.

Current and former mentors include senior government officials, ambassadors, business executives, tenured professors, journalists, and serving and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Program Format

Our mentorships are 4 months long and involve a minimum of 2 hours of mentorship activities per month. These activities can include:

  • Regular/timely e-mail correspondence
  • Meetings (phone, virtual call, or over coffee)
  • C.V. and job-seeking advice
  • Career planning
  • Introductions to professionals at networking events
  • Invitations to conferences/meetings
  • Job shadowing
  • … and more!

Mentees will also have the opportunity to attend or present at the CDA Institute’s Annual Graduate Student Conference to showcase their knowledge of Canadian defence and security.

Become a mentor

Our goal is to connect individuals who are well-established in their defence and security careers with students and young professionals under 30 who have shown remarkable interest in pursuing a successful career in the sector.

Current and former mentees include undergraduate students, graduate students, recent graduates, and early career scholars and practitioners whom all share a strong passion for all things defence and security.
