Young Professionals

The CDA Institute’s Young Professionals Programme is our way of helping foster the next generation of defence and security leaders and thinkers.

We provide young people (ages 30 and under) with opportunities that will help accelerate their professional growth. These include internships with the CDA Institute, mentorships with a career professional, and our annual Graduate Student Conference which highlights the research of young people all across Canada and around the world.

By applying for any of these opportunities and/or by signing up to join our Young Professional’s Network, you will be part of our youth community and will be notified of any job opportunities, free or discounted tickets, and rapporteur positions.

Mentorship

The CDA Institute’s Mentorship Programme strategically matches young professionals (individuals 30 and under) to mentors — individuals who are well established in their careers within the defence and security sector.

Internships

Our Research Assistant positions on staff are paid 3 to 6 month postings that provide opportunities for young professionals to expose themselves to a career in national security and defence that matches their academic and personal interests. As a Research Assistant you will get a chance to work side by side with accomplished professionals across our network, gain industry insight, build your professional network, master hard and soft skills, and improve your resume before you enter the workforce.

Graduate Student Conference

 May 9-10, 2024

The Graduate Student Conference provides students with a unique platform to present their research, create professional connections, and hone their skills for the future.

Participants will be given the opportunity to present their research and receive constructive feedback from a panel of high-profile judges who are active decision-makers in industry, government, academia, and think tanks across Canada. Our judges and audience will be taking note of who you are and the quality of your work. This is your chance to get your name out there, showcase your research to senior-level practitioners, and have it shared broadly within the Canadian defence and security community.
